Codex Just Shipped Voice Control. This Is the Closest I've Felt to AGI.
OpenAI pushed it about two hours ago. It's 12:05 AM and I'm too wired to wait until morning.
It’s 12:05 AM. OpenAI shipped voice control in its desktop app about two hours ago, and I’m still up, talking to my computer instead of sleeping.
I couldn’t wait to tell you.
Here’s what it does.
You open the Codex desktop app (or ChatGPT desktop), turn on voice mode, and just talk.
Out loud.
You ask what’s happening on your computer, and it looks.
You tell it to start a task, and it starts.
You direct more than one agent at once, steer your coding jobs by voice, or run your everyday work.
You hand it your machine and your local files and tell it what you want in plain speech.
Here’s the part that makes it feel alive. It runs on GPT-Live, OpenAI’s full-duplex voice model.
It listens while it talks, and it keeps working while you talk. So you kick off one job, start describing the next one out loud, and it stays with you instead of freezing until the first one finishes.
I’ve wanted this exact thing for years. Not a chatbot I type at. A partner I can turn to and say “what’s running right now,” “kick off that job,” “check on this,” and watch it move.

You know I don’t care which model or tool you run day to day. I run my own and I’ll keep running it. That’s not the point tonight. The point is this one experience, talking to your machine and watching it act on your real work, is one you have to feel for yourself.
